Yeah Baby! I love wielding a pick ax and digging up dirt in my yard! What I love more is that I can do it with good form, without being sore and without injuring myself. Bring on the next DIY!

Certified Personal Trainer, 2016
Certified Health Coach, 2016
Certificate, Functional Aging Specialist, 2017

In August 2015, I decided to become a Personal Fitness Trainer. I signed up for Academy Elite online self-paced program from ACE (American Academy on Exercise). My goals were clear: once and for all, find a way off the weight roller coaster, and while doing so, learn to help other women who, like me, have battled life-long weight and fitness issues.

I weighed 232 pounds and was 58 years old.

On March 23, 2016, I passed the certification exam on the first try. As I was learning about being a Fitness Trainer I was also achieving a number of healthy goals and had begun addressing behavioral issues that had previously kept me fat. Following my encore career plan, I signed up for the Health Coach Certification; I passed the exam in December 2016. In March 2017 I earned a certificate for Functional Aging Specialist.

Two years after starting I weighed 185 pounds, a 21% weight loss. Because I lost the weight slowly and did resistance exercise regularly, the weight I lost was mostly fat, not vital muscle.

In October 2017 I reached another goal I had set for myself: I became a member of the National Weight Control Registry, a long-term study that recruits people who have lost at least 30 pounds and kept it off for at least a year.

There are a lot of us out there on the same journey. A lot of women just like me who are looking for a way to "flip the switch" and lose weight once and for all. It can be done. I'm doing it, you can too.
